Sometimes people come back with more than memories and shopping. If you come back with an illness, then it is wise to be checked out. If you have been to a country where there is malaria, and you develop a fever, you should seek urgent medical attention. Tell any doctor that you see that you might have malaria and need to be tested for it - malaria can show up a year or occasionally even later after travel. Diarrhoea might settle in a few days, but if it does not, or you work in the food industry, then you should get attention as soon as possible.

Other pre-existing medical conditions also might be aggravated. For example, asthma might deteriorate with a chest infection, or diabetes might flare up with infectious illness. Please seek medical attention early.
